Lately I have been trying to find some other good brunch places in San Diego. While going through the San Diego Sunday Brunch Master’s blog I came across Azul, which sounded promising. The Sunday brunch options looked yummy, and it has a beautiful view of the cove, and brunch comes with a complimentary champagne, bloody mary, mimosa or screwdriver. Brunch also comes with complimentary pastries and fruit. The full brunch menu can be found on their website.
When we arrived, we were surprised about how empty it was. There were only two other tables filled out of the whole big dining room. However, the view of the cove is gorgeous. Here’s the view from our table:

The pastries were a bit disappointing. The pictures of the complimentary pastries and fruit on the brunchmaster’s website had looked much better.
There were so many entrees I wanted to try, but I ended up going with the wagyu burger. It is topped with blue cheese and served with shoe string fries.
The burger was big and too tall to eat together. I couldn’t fit an entire bite into my mouth. The meat was cooked perfectly and was very juicy. I didn’t care much for the bread that went with it. The blue cheese tasted good with the meat. The shoe string fries were just okay. They were crunchy, but not that tasty.
Boyfriend got the steak and eggs.
The steak tasted just alright. It was about the same level as when I make my own steak. We were expecting something more since Azul is a steakhouse. The potatoes weren’t crispy either.
All in all, just an okay experience. A beautiful view, plenty of room for brunch. But it was almost too quiet. I missed the louder ambiance of Jake’s Del Mar.

Much like you, I’m always in search of nice places to eat here in San Diego. I was born on the old continent and lived a long time in Australia, so I really know good eats, and I’m kind of disappointed that San Diego doesn’t have more places with truly good food at affordable prices.
If you like the Brigantine restaurants (Azul is part of their chain) you’ve got to try the new one they’ve opened recently, called Zocalo, in 4S Ranch – my favorite place for weekend brunch. Last Sunday I had the brick-oven baked omelet with tomatoes, wild mushrooms, blended Latin cheeses, lobster and crab for $17, which includes a glass of champagne or mimosa, fresh fruit, orange juice and roasted jerk potatoes. My husband had the crispy softshell crab with oven roasted Serrano ham, jalapeño tartar sauce, lettuce and tomato at $16. The servers are the best I’ve seen in six years of living in San Diego! Attentive but not “in your face” and they will try to accommodate one’s requests. They also have wonderful evenings with live music and I don’t want to forget to mention the really nice and clean ambiance and gorgeous neighborhood. We live close by so for us having brunch here has become a little bit of a habit 🙂

Hi Carol- Yeah, I didn’t even realize Azul’s was open for brunch until I saw it on brunchmaster. They definitely have a lot more available seating available than some of the more popular brunch spots, and it has a magnificent view.
It’s been years since we’ve been to Azul’s. We’ve only been there for dinner but have always had great meals there. I’ll have to remember them for brunch.
